Patcong Valley
Model Railroad

Thank You for visiting the website of our HO Model Railroad which is located in Southern New Jersey and open to the public around the Christmas holidays in December and January. We also open on November 16th this year to honor National Model Railroad Month.
Here is some current News:
Come out for our open houses in November, December, and January of 2019-2020 this season.
The trains will be running on a total of 6 weekends from December 2019 thru January 2020 plus on November 16th 2019. See the schedule page listed in the sidebar on the home page for details.

Our layout is considered by many that visit to be a museum quality display depicting the realistic operation of a railroad in the Middle Northeast region of the United States.
Many different club members over the past 15 years have contributed to and created real life scenic elements that make you feel like you are viewing a minature world that echos the era of Railroading in its glory in the 1950's.
Besides the scenery there are many highly sophisticated operational aspects of our model RR world.
We use a digital command control system that allows realistic sound along with prototypical operation. Most mainline sections of the railroad have authentic PRR signals installed to govern the flow of trains. The digital control of the trains also enhances the realism of our railroad that allows multiple trains to run in both directions of the railroad at the same time.
Members are hard at work all year making changes to the railroad and are always improving what is already some of the best scenery seen on our railroad to date.
The members of the Patcong Valley Model RR have made changes to the layout to allow more trains to be run in seperate areas on the layout and construction has begun this year on a Steel Mill complex. A recently completed project is a city area reminisent of Weehawken NJ, in the 1950's, and the city scenery and surrounding waterfront areas are some of the most interesting places to view on the entire railroad.
The new Steel Mill scene that is under construction during the 2019-20 open house season includes the following highlights: Blast Furnace ,Steel rolling mill, new trestles to the Steel Mill level, all being built along the large back wall area of the layout!
The Steel mill replaced our old tower section along the back wall. With DCC the older conventional observation tower was no longer needed.
Come out and see this great new area !

See the link on the sidebar for dates and hours to view our display this year.

Much progress has been made with track improvements and other and areas of interest on the layout.
Working Pennsylvania RR style signal bridges have been added to most of the Mainline portion of the layout. We continue to bring our railroad to new level of operating realism with technical improvements in the electronics and controls, including the addition of a lighting storm lighting display complete with thunder.
Behind the scenes all of our control panels are being professionally rewired and rebuilt for reliable operation year after year.

Please come see us during our open house schedule!

Here are some year round tips for seeing our railroad:

We will be open on a limited basis on select weekends thru the Spring, Summer and Fall according to the Buena Vista township special events schedule. If we are open the hours will usually be from 10am - 2pm on Saturday.
You can also come by early on any Saturday and we will be glad to let you see the RR while members are at work on it. (Trains are not running at these Saturday work sessions.)

Here is a little history about our group:
We are proud to have been formed as a model railroad club over 50 years ago!
Patcong Valley Society of Model Railroaders date back to the 1950’s where the original railroad was built in a chicken coop in a member’s back yard in Linwood NJ on Patcong Avenue.  Following that period, members met in each other home until the early 1960’s.  A second railroad was built on the second floor of a drug store in Ocean City NJ.  Finally in 1968, the club moved into an old horse barn on Dick Schiereck’s property in Egg Harbor Township off Fire Road Near Atlantic City NJ. This was renovated over the years to house a large museum quality HO Scale railroad that was enjoyed by thousands of visitors over the Holidays each year from that time till we made our next move.
Currently, the PVRR is being rebuilt in an old sewing factory on route 40 in Richland NJ.

The Club has been involved in a rebirth of the area along Rt 40 that is rich with railroad and cultural history. Many projects are underway at this time that are transforming this area into a destination stop rather than a whistle stop, as many cars pass thru this area to and from Atlantic City Area Beaches and Casinos.

The members of the Patcong Valley are hard at work at creating another high quality HO scale model railroad that will be open to the public for the holidays and on other special occasions just like the club was at their old location in Egg Harbor Township NJ.

The Club is seeking experienced members young and old to help us build and operate this large DCC layout.

Take a tour around our website and contact us for more information, and send us your email address to be contacted when our show schedule is updated.

Every Open House is entertaining to those who visit us. See the links in the left column of this website page for a schedule of future open house dates during the holidays and special events at the Richland Village Site.
